I chose new energy because I like to think of the new and innovative ways we can get, store and use energy that the planet produces naturally. My rational for this is because if we use natural resources to power the lives we live we can reduce our carbon footprint and the emissions that are put into atmosphere. This is a sustainability topic, because this is energy that the planet produces and keeps producing, so it will not run out like coal and oil( which is also produced by the planet). New energy is an alternative to other sources used that cause CO2 emissions into the atmosphere to create the global warming affect.
I selected this topic because I was really interested in how I can change the way people think about how we get and use our energy sources.I also thought about how a city can run on new energy.I do think this topic is very important to consider as being a citizen of a community, because if we can teach our students about alternative ways of living they will take that information to the people around them, and that in return may help our community turn to alternative sources of energy.
This topic matters for my students, because the future generation needs to be informed about the options that we have for energy to be able to help the planet thrive. This topic is relevant to teach because everyday people are inventing new innovative designs on multiple different mediums which may account for an easier way to reduce our carbon footprint. Another option for teaching in my future classroom would be that the more people that only know how to be sustainable the better because of the future impacts it will have on the planet and society as a whole. It is important for elementary school students to understand all the options that are available for energy usage and be able to make informed decisions on the future. Another way that this will help my future students is for them to think outside the box on multiple different difficulties that they may have in classes.
This topic relates to science by showing how new energy works in an activity that you can show in class. In social studies it will help my students see past innovations for the energy industry and also see the successes and failures of historic moments. Math you can use mathematical formulas to find how new energy systems would work in certain environmental conditions. Language arts would help my students be able to write papers and speak about new energy and the coal and oil industry, with this I would start to do educated and factually evident debates in my classroom to help my students understand pros and cons of both sides to get a better view of what they would need to find out in the future.
